I had a strange sense of deja vu, like I’ve been here before, except this time I have. I have been to Ghirardelli Square before. Ghirardelli Square is a shopping plaza owned by the Ghirardelli chocolate company. They sell mini square shape chocolate bars. Ghirardelli Square is not quite the Willy Wonka style theme park that World of Coca-Cola is, but it’s still pleasant.
They were having a Chocolate Festival there. Most of the stuff there was pretty normal: chocolate candy, stuff dipped in chocolate, chocolate coffee (that’s called mocha). Among the more unusual stuff I found were the chocolate beverages, especially the alcoholic chocolate beverages. Putting alcohol into candy is one thing. I mean there’s plenty of liqueur that you can find in truffles, but putting chocolate into alcohol is a different story altogether. I had a sample of a few of their chocolate wine. It wasn’t so bad. The bitter mixed well with the fruit flavor with a hint of sweetness so it was interesting, but the worst was yet to come.
Chocolate vodka. Yuck! Whose idea was this? This tasted disgusting. This is probably the worst thing ever. It was bitter, and it burned like chocolate flavored mouthwash. It was the worst of both world. It was like a shot of vodka just straight up with no chaser and like a mouthful of dark chocolate with no sugar or cream. It was super strong. They gave me a double shot as a free sample. I couldn’t even finish it. All that aside the people were really friendly they had a nice display. I might get this is a gift for someone I don’t like.
